Thursday post

So, I didn't see this coming at all and I'm rather depressed for it. Adrian killed himself and I'm not sure I understand exactly why. What creeps me out is that "Adrian had done it very efficiently, and left a full account of his reasons." (page 52) Even in death, he is a well-working machine. His suicide was so meticulously thought out from the way he killed himself to the after effects. I guess for Adrian, if you're going to kill yourself, you might as well do it right. He'd always been a smart kid, maybe it's what even killed him, and he was even smart in the way he killed himself. "'Even so - second prize,' said Alex. 'Adrian would have wanted first.' He was right: first-class degree, first-class suicide." (Page 53) This event deeply disturbs me; I'd find the death of someone to be deeply traumatic to those who he once knew but everyone acts like it's the death of a mathematical equation and treats it like a series of facts. "A logical act when faced with terminal illness or senility; a heroic one when faced with torture or the avoidable deaths of others; a glamorous one in the fury of disappointed love. None of these categories had applied in the case of Robson's squalid lot mediocre action. Nor did any of them apply to Adrian." Adrian planned out his suicide showing he had been thinking about killing himself for a while. He knew how, where, when, and the message he wanted to get out. He was even polite in death when he apologized to the police for taking up their time. Alex and Tony don't seem so effected by it; instead of mourning they're just trying to decipher the facts. Although, I suppose that their inability to relate to each other did effect their care for Adrian, but still... Someone is dead. My curiosity is what did lead him to kill himself. Was it simply because he was too smart so his deepening thoughts pushed him to act or perhaps Veronica influenced him badly? Where is she anyways? For someone who had the deceased infatuated, she sure seems distant.
